Chosen, Called, Sent – Homily for the 15th Sunday in ...

Amos answered Amaziah, “I was no prophet, nor have I belonged to a company of prophets;I was a shepherd and a dresser of sycamores. The LORD took me from following the flock, and said to me, Go, prophesy to my people Israel." (Amos 7:14-15)

Life is… pt. 5 – HOW GOD SEES OUR MESS

"[A] thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan, to harass me, to keep me from being too elated. 8 Three times I begged the Lord about this, that it should leave me; 9 but he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” I will all the more gladly boast of my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities; for when I am weak, then I am strong." (2 Cor 12:7b-10)

Life is… pt. 4 – TURNING TOWARDS WHE IT GETS ...

“What made the woman’s touch unlike that of all the others in the crowd was her faith. She had wanted to touch Jesus’ garment lightly, without attracting any attention to herself, whereas others were jostling roughly against him. Yet her touch was more efficacious than all the rest, because through faith it came into contact with the person of Jesus and his healing power.” (Mary Healy)

Life is… pt. 2 – MESSY FAMILIES

“Every member of the kingdom is being made ready for the harvest by our inner growth in holiness and virtue, which God brings about through our cooperation with his grace. The parable serves as an encouragement for those who think their efforts for the kingdom are fruitless, and a warning for those who think they can bring about the kingdom by their own projects and programs.” (Mary Healy)

Life is… pt. 1 – MESSY

"It is a distinguishing mark of error that whatever anyone finds personally displeasing he imagines is displeasing to God as well." (St. Augustine)
