Courage, Dear Heart – Homily at Notre Dame Seminary

About a month or so ago, I was at the park writing and listening to Spotify when Sparrow by Tenth Avenue North came on. I’m usually don’t really listen to the words of the music as I write but, for some reason, the words “Courage, dear heart” struck me. It comes from one of my favorite fiction books, CS Lewis’s The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, the 5th book in his Chronicles of Narnia series.

I stopped for a moment to pray for a friend who came to mind and soon began to pray for myself as well. Over the next couple of weeks, “Courage, dear heart” became a refrain in my own prayer and, as I prepared to preach here at Notre Dame two Mondays ago, I discerned in prayer that God was asking me to share this with the NDS community. Today, I share these reflections from our community with you.
